Spendor SP100R2 Classic Series

RFQ

Presented in a traditional veneered enclosure, the Spendor SP100R² has a powerful visual presence to match its gloriously full scale sound. It is an evolution of the Spendor BC3, S100, S100P, SP100 and SP100R loudspeaker systems. These have been recipients of numerous awards: the prestigious French Diapason d'or and the Japanese 'Component of the year' accolade to name but two.

The Spendor SP100R² continues to set the standard by which other full-size loudspeakers must be judged.

The SP100R² is a testament to Spendor's unique understanding of cabinet design. Critical positioning of the drive units and internal enclosures control and reduce unwanted resonances to an absolute minimum.

Where will my speakers sound best?

As a guide your loudspeakers should be placed 2 – 3 metres apart and a similar distance from the listening position. Try to position them at least 20cm from a rear wall and 30cm from a side wall. Angle the speakers in a little towards the listener to minimise off-axis reflections. Spendor speakers are however designed to operate in a wide variety of listening environments, so you should not concern yourself unduly over position. There is no problem using the loudspeakers in whatever position you wish.

Which cables should I use to connect my speakers ?

Loudspeaker cables can have an important effect on sound quality. Choose good quality low resistance cables. Ask your dealer for advice on cables to suit your system and budget.

How do I connect my Spendor speakers ?

Set your amplifier to minimum and switch off the power. Connect the amplifier output marked 'right' to the speaker on the right, and the amplifier output marked 'left' to the speaker on the left. The positive (+ or red) terminal on the loudspeaker should be connected to the positive (+ or red) terminal on the amplifier. The negative (- or black) terminal on the loudspeaker should be connected to the negative (- or black) terminal on the amplifier.

Can Spendor speakers be bi-wired ?

This facility is only available on some of our more traditional products. Optimum sound quality will normally be obtained by using a single set of high quality cables rather than two sets of lower quality cables.

Can Spendor speakers be bi-amped ?

This facility is only available on some of our products. Bi-amping allows two independent audio power amplifier of equal or similar quality to be used for LF and HF signals. Unless the amplifiers are carefully matched, differences in amplitude or phase may seriously degrade acoustic performance.

Who is the manufacturer of Spendor's drive units ?

All Spendor LF and MR drive units are designed and built at our factory for exclusive use in our loudspeakers, and HF units are made to Spendor’s rigorous specification by leading specialists.

What does "pair matching" mean and is it important ?

All the component parts of our products are methodically matched across the frequency band to well within 1.0 dB before assembly, ensuring a perfectly stable stereo image at all frequencies.

Do my speakers need "running-in" ?

Your loudspeakrs will benefit from a period of running-in. During this period the stresses in the suspension system will relax and stabilise. This period is dependent on many factors and can vary from days to weeks depending onhow often and how loud you play them. This is not a cause for concern and your speakers will improve as you use them during this initial period.

What does "power rating" mean ?

The power rating for your speakers should be taken as a guide to the power rating for a complementary amplifier. However, provided that you NEVER play at levels where the sound is strained or distorted, the power rating is not critical. Programme material with a high degree of low frequency content can drive loudspeakers past their safe limit of mechanical movement. If the sound is strained or distorted, always turn the playing level down immediately.

What do I do if I need service for my loudspeakers ?

If you require advice or service on your audio system please contact your Spendor dealer. We recommend that you retain all the packaging for your loudspeakers in case you need to transport them safely in the future.

How do I care for my Spendor loudspeakers ?

Cabinet veneers and high gloss lacquers should be treated like high quality furniture. Routine dusting with a soft cloth is recommended. Do not apply any aerosol spray directly to the loudspeaker as this could damage the drive units or grille fabric. Dust on the grille cloth can be removed with a sticky roller or a piece of sticky tape or by gentle vacuuming with a soft brush adaptor. Do not expose the cabinets to damp, widely fluctuating temperatures or direct sunlight, as appearance and performance may suffer. Spendor cabinets are finished in natural wood and high gloss lacquers. Over time the wood will age and mature, evening out and often darkening the surface colour while highlighting the natural grain and patina. Care should be taken whilst cleaning high gloss lacquers to avoid scratching caused by dirty cleaning cloths.
